The bi-annual Austin Vintage Style Fest is coming up soon, May 11-13!

This event is billed as “The South by Southwest of Vintage Clothing,” and includes free drinks/food, discounts, music, and much more. Vintage stores throughout Austin (including Blue Velvet, of course, and our very own North Loop District) are participating, as well as “pop-up” stores by out-of-town and online vendors. If you are visiting Austin for the SXSW Festival, don’t forget to take a little time off to do some vintage shopping! Blue Velvet is a great place to find something unique and “Austin”-y to take home with you, and our shopping district on North Loop Boulevard is a great destination is hoppin’ with independent, locally-owned businesses.

Right next door to us on one side is open-24-hours Epoch Coffee, and on the other side is all-vinyl Breakaway Records, and North Loop is home to lots of vintage, book, skateboard, and clothing shops, plus new cocktail bars DrinkWell and The Tigress.

Blue Velvet will NOT be having any live music during the festival, so you can have a (relatively) quiet shopping experience—-an oasis of fun shopping in the midst of the madness!

Take a look at these great photos from the “Summer of ’69,” benefit for SafePlace, which was held at The Belmont. The event featured a photo booth with late ’60s fashions from Blue Velvet and was a big success and lots of fun–all for a great cause!

Austin photographer Autumn Spadaro recently shot a series of awesome zombies-of-many-eras photos like this one, titled “Dead in The ’50s,” and much of the period clothing came from Blue Velvet.
